The Platform Coordination Unit (PCU) of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) organized a three-day hands-on training on and Investment tracking tool dubbed the 3W Map for the Office of Prime Minister (OPM) of Uganda on October 11th, 12th and 13th in Kampala.

Sharing of knowledge and information related to the implementation of IGAD Drought and Disaster Resilience Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) is a strategic function of the Platform Coordination Unit (PCU), which helps to identify resilience needs and informs programming. In this regard, who-is-doing-what-where (3W) is a powerful Knowledge Management tool, which was developed by the PCU (with the technical support of UN-OCHA), to facilitate mapping of resilience investments.

In appreciation of the importance and utility of the 3W tool, the IDDRSI Platform Steering Committee meeting held in October 2013 endowed the PCU with the responsibility to build the capacity of IGAD Member States, IGAD Secretariat and Specialized Institutions in the application of the 

3W mapping tool and other Knowledge Management tools to support the implementation of IDDRSI.

In line with this assignment and in response to requests made in 2015 and 2016 by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) of Ugand

a, the PCU organized a 3day hands-on training workshop on the 3W mapping tool for selected technical experts involved in the implementation of IDDRSI in Uganda.

The training included an exercise on how to populate the 3W map for Uganda with real data and presentation of the 3W Map to all relevant IDDRSI stakeholders. During the training course, the selected technical persons were given the opportunity to interact with the principles of the 3W technology, and were taught how to enter data and manage it for their country. They were also trained on how to project data on the tool, and perform analysis to identify gaps.

At the end of the training, the participants determined the way forward on how to manage and continuously update the uploaded information
