The intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) with support from the German technical Cooperation (GIZ) has conducted an Introductory Training on the Use of GeoNode for the Management of Geospatial Information in Resilience Planning.

The 3 day training which took place in Lodwar Karamoja from July 11th to July 13th has permitted to close to 20 experts from local authorities and ministries in Turkana county to familiarise themselves in the use of GeoNode for managing spatial information on a web based platform.

The training which was facilitated by the GIZ Technical Facility in Lodwar is one in a series of trainings to come based on introducing the IDDRSI knowledge management tools to support spatial planning. The latter provides the means to put in place a systemic approach for resilience building. It does so by allowing various stakeholders from different geographical areas and sectors to work together.

The training was concluded with the identification of a way forward for the deployment of GeoNode and the consolidation of skills in using Geospatial data for and geographical information systems.
