Eeem.org with its multimedia eLearning tools deals directly with the agro-pastoralists communities through a bottom-up approach. The intervention presented during this session demonstrates the process that the organisation used to develop 4 eBooks that are used to strengthen the capacities of the relevant institutions for a sustainable increase of water storage capacity. The e-books focus on technologies and activities to be implemented at water tanks to reduce erosion and evaporation as well as to increase water quality and quantity; increase ownership and sustainability, to reduce vandalism and to regulate access for livestock; engage user groups in discussing harmful practices and teaches mainly how to do intensive vegetable gardening. The practice trains tablet teachers to handle the tools (eBooks, Ipads and solar charger) and to teach the content to their communities.
During her studies of Ethnology and Psychology Petra Dilthey focused on ethnographic films. That brought her – after her Ph.D. – to German TV. Working as film maker for different broadcasters she combined her anthropological know how with her film making experience and established – together with her husband Uli Schwarz, a geographer and environmental consultant – the video production company up-film production.
Uli Schwarz is a geographer and environment consultant. He works with his wife Petra Dilthey, a film maker who combines her anthropological and film making experience. Jointly, they established the video production company - up-film production. Besides filming for TV they work for BMZ, GIZ and international NGO´s. Eventually they founded their own NGO up4change e.V. in 2008 with projects in Brazil, India and Kenya. In 2016/17 they implemented - with the help of BMZ – their first eeem.org pilot project in Northern Kenya. In 2019/20 they developed 4 new eeem.org eBooks for GIZ in Karamoja, Uganda.
