The IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) recently commemorated its Tenth Anniversary, reflecting on a decade of dedicated efforts toward building resilience in drought-prone regions. The Resilience Focus Magazine (RFM), a vital component established during the first phase of IDDRSI, played a crucial role in marking this significant occasion by dedicating its eighth issue to the initiative’s anniversary.
As the world struggles with the increasing challenges posed by climate change, the IDDRSI has emerged as a sign of hope for communities in arid and semi-arid regions. In an explanation to Member States and Development Partners, stakeholders emphasized the urgent need to escalate investments in resilience projects. The focus is particularly on the vulnerable arid and semi-arid communities that bear the brunt of multiple hazards.
In the special edition of RFM, a comprehensive array of project-level communications, journalistic narratives on drought, and scientific articles were presented. These pieces investigate into various aspects of IDDRSI’s eight Priority Intervention Areas (PIAs), demonstrating the initiative’s multifaceted approach to building sustainable resilience.
